Ideal Body Weight: How to Find Your Healthy Weight

Ideal weight isn't one number, it's a range. Two people at the same height and weight can look and feel completely different depending on muscle and fat.
A quick ideal weight formula
Men: (height in cm − 100) − 10%. Women: (height in cm − 100) − 15%. A 175cm man lands around 67kg, a 165cm woman around 55kg. Treat it as a starting point, not a verdict.
Body Mass Index (BMI)
BMI = weight ÷ (height in metres)². Under 18.5 underweight, 18.5-24.9 normal, 25-29.9 overweight, 30+ obese. Its flaw: a muscular lifter reads as 'overweight' because BMI can't tell muscle from fat.
The honest metric: body fat
Men: 10-18% is healthy and athletic; women: 18-26%. Track waist circumference and photos every four weeks — far more reliable than a scale number that swings daily with water and salt.
Calculate your calories and targetThe scale measures gravity, not progress.
How do I calculate ideal weight by height?▼
Men: (height in cm − 100) minus 10%; women minus 15%, then check body fat.
Is BMI accurate?▼
Useful for the general population but misleading for athletes since it ignores muscle.
How much weight can I safely lose per month?▼
2-4kg a month (0.5-1% of body weight weekly) is healthy and sustainable.
