Ideal Body Weight by Height and Age
Ideal weight is a range, not a single number. Here are the formulas that actually get used and how to set your real target.
The ideal weight formula
Men: (height in cm − 100) − 10%. Women: (height in cm − 100) − 15%. A 175cm man ≈ 67kg; a 165cm woman ≈ 55kg.
BMI and its limits
BMI = weight ÷ (height in m)². Under 18.5 underweight, 18.5-24.9 normal, 25-29.9 overweight, 30+ obese. Its flaw: it can't tell muscle from fat.
The honest metric
Track waist circumference, photos every four weeks and body fat — far more reliable than a number that swings daily with water and salt.
